Religious or Relationship

Isn't it an amazing feeling to have the kind of relationship we have with our God? If you look at other religions you find people constantly striving to follow lists, check "good deeds" off, make sacrifices (human or animal), live a life of fear or even just knowing you may or may not make it to a good place beyond the earth.

The kind of relationship we are allowed to have with someone so powerful just blows my mind. You see sorcerers or witches who culminate their work from pure fear. You see people trapped in cults who live a life being brain washed, being told how they're living is good for them, that it's what is what their life is supposed to be.

It's always confused me why someone would choose anything other than God...but then again, you tell a lie loud enough and often enough then people will start to believe, right? If someone is told all of their life that, like Santa, God is just a fairy tale, something cocky people made up for a feel good belief, most likely when faced with a decision they won't go straight to God as the answer.

God has become so small in the minds of mankind and it's all our fault. God would never belittle Himself, therefor it must be our doing. How often do we outwardly show our lack of faith that He will come through on our behalf; that He will do exactly what He said He would. How often do we tell the younger generation to put their trust in the one true God, then flee from Him altogether when hard times come? How often do we put our own knowledge and understanding over His for the pleasure of our pride?

God is not a fairy tale, and should never be treated as such. Despite what others might say, God is not some little man upstairs who will give you rain with the snap of a finger. He isn't "the man upstairs." He is the God of the universe. The Creator of everything you see. He gives life and takes it away with a very thought. He is just and righteous; always acts accordingly to His law and word. He is not to be taken lightly, nor to be mocked or ridiculed.

Of course, in a perfect world all this would be great. The truth is, until His children are in heaven man will always mock Him. They will always torture His children and try with all of their might to destroy His name.

The bible tells us that He is everlasting. He is the beginning and the end. This is not just some quote of a man thousands of years ago. This is fact. Truth. No matter what people do, no matter the evil that seems to grow stronger in this sin filled world, God will always prevail; He will always reign.

With other religions that require a life to be given for it's cause, God's children willingly give their life to help others see the life of Christ...because God gave His life for them. Loved His children more than anyone could ever know. We don't run planes into buildings, but stand at burning posts singing praises to God as we're burned to death. We are disowned by our family because we make Christ a part of our life instead of a lifeless religion that stems from fear.
We don't use other religious gods names as curse words, yet are forced to hear others take the name of our Lord and King and use it as a curse word to describe their disgust.

What do we do about all of it? When we see brothers and sisters suffering around the world for the faith we take so readily for granted here in America...do we grow stronger in our faith, or do we say it was their own choice to go somewhere so unsafe?

People say Christians are religious. They couldn't be more wrong. True Christians don't rely on a religion. They don't have lists and rules they have to follow otherwise they won't make it to the finish line. A true follower of Christ is one who has a relationship. One with the One and true God who loved deeply and judges righteously. No other belief in this world that you will find will ever scratch the surface of giving you peace. Even when faced with death, the Christian can rest assured where they're going.

So the question I ask myself, and all of my readers:

-Does your faith stem from a religion, or a relationship?

Growing Old

From the time of Creation God has given chance after chance, loved when mankind behaved in a way that was unlovable, had patience when we were stubborn, ached when we did wrong, and died when the time had come.

Looking at my own life, as my birthday is quickly approaching, I've realized that I live each moment not as if it were my last, but as if I had a lifetime more to live.

This life is a gift, not to be taken for granted; this life is a blessing, not to be taken lightly. We were put here for a purpose. One thing alone. How often do I push it to the back of my mind, simply to hope for another day of time?

God looks down, guiding my steps and path, yet I take the easy road; I take the road full of temptations, full of pain. "My Lord" I ask looking to the sky, "Why?" when it was my choice, my decision all along.

I take more than I give, I complain more than I say a prayer of thanks. I complain of pain instead of feeling HIS life that was slain.

I read His word with a closed mind, only seeing what I wish to see; only doing the least hoping to still get through the day with a "Well Done".

-Is this pleasing to God?
-Is this what I was made for?
-Is this what I promised to do when I received His Son?

The answer is no, I know which way I should go for HE gives me wisdom, HE is more than a mere religion.

My God is great. My God is strong. My God, You alone can clear the storms. You alone can bring peace out of destruction. Out of a life full of rejection.

He is here. Waiting with open arms as we fall to our knees and realize where we've gone wrong.

My life is but a short time here on earth; today I ask that God would show me my worth through Him, so I may shine His marvelous glory to all who look.

Love Goes Both Ways

"Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth." -Psalm 115:1

"And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say,
“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.”
And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
"Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

How often do we go on about the abundance of Gods love towards us, yet forget to remember that we should tell of our love for HIM, as well?

It's so easy to tell other people how much God loves them; it's easy to remind ourselves how much God cares for us. Not to belittle this whatsoever, but how often do we stop and remember to show our love for God, instead of simply receiving all of the love?

So many times in my daily activities when I face a problem or time of pain, I remind myself that God is there for me, that He loves me more than anything...because it's comforting...because it's what I'm supposed to do. He is so amazing, and will give strength and comfort any time we ask. But honestly, we were put on this earth to glorify God. I think I often want to soak in all the love of Christ and not let it come back out. We are to praise Him and give Him all of our adoration; to love Him with such a strong passion that it's visible by all who see us.

Our God is worthy of our entire life; everything within us.

"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge;
my savior..." -2 Samuel 22:2-4

When we show our love for Christ, it should be not only when we're alone but when we're around other people, Christians or not. We should outwardly show how much we love Him by our actions and the way we speak.

"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal." -1 Corinthians 13:1

- - - - - -

We will be built up in God, strengthened in our faith and in turn, be kept in the love of Jesus.

What is our reaction when someone we love is endangered? We protect them with all of our power and strength. Sometimes we're even willing to risk our life for them. We constantly talk about how much we love them, always bringing them up in our conversations...whether it fits or not. There will be a time when the word of God is endangered, not ever to be lost forever, but people do try to destroy it; everyday...possibly even to a point where one day all that's left is what we know of it, I don't know. This might be why God told us to keep His word on our hearts. If you look in the bible though, you will see that our job is to tell others of the One we love so they, too, might have something great worth living for. To carry on the love we've been given and hand it to other people.

"But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, that they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy..."

Remember the lyrics that say,
"Jesus I am so in love with You."

Just like in marriage where it takes both people loving, our relationship with Christ cannot be without our love aimed toward Him. Though He loves those who try to destroy His children, a true relationships cannot be without love. This also comes from Christ.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the condition of my relationship with God. He loves me even when I make the worst of mistakes; He continues to guide me and has never given up on me no matter how bad I've been. He shows His love to me countless times a day. How often, I asked myself, do I show that same love to my Savior? He never makes a mistake, never lets me down, never holds His forgiveness from me, never leaves me, never turns His back on me in tough times, never stops loving me...He is perfect through and through, and I "forget" to show my love for Him.

I will strive to show in my life, not only God's love, but also my love for Him.

One Love, One Purpose, One Message

-One: Existing, acting, or considered as a single unit, entity, or individual
-Love: A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person
-Revolution: A sudden, complete or marked change in something

The group I've been following for a bit now is called "One Love Revolution" and what it is kind of speaks for itself. It's a group of people getting together as *One*, showing such a passionate *Love* for those around us that it has started to become a *Revolution*.

If one's heart is truly in something, other people will notice. Everyone wants a passion in life that will drive them, something to fill their time that has meaning. Everyone wants to be a part of a cause that will have a lasting result. How many of us are willing to let our passionless lives go and just do what we have been called to do? How many times have we been lit back on fire for the Lord after seeing what others are doing for the cause of Christ; the love we see in their eyes, the glow from their face that can only come from God and a true fulfillment in their one's life given only through Christ Jesus Himself. How many times have we dumped water on our flame by saying we aren't capable of doing such a thing because we lack the correct training, talents or free time in schedules? How many times have we put what we want over what God is telling is to go do?

We have to allow Christ to change our lives to an outward focus, not an inward focus. We have to let God work in our hearts; to give us the passion we long for. We have to be willing to feel for other people, to cry when they cry, have heartache when they do and are brought to our knees when things get rough.

-When is the last time we were brought to our knees, to tears or to a point of speechlessness because of something God did?

-When is the last time we were in AWE of our Savior?

-When is the last time we just told God how much we truly love Him?

Have we become so lifeless that we push aside any emotional feelings for our God? We can't be emotional Christians on fire for God if we let our pride get in the way of His calling or love.

I'm the kind of person that makes excuses for not going where I feel God wants me to go or do what He wants me to do. As a matter of fact, if there was a job for making up believable excuses, I'd be the head of that corporation.

-God couldn't use me there, I don't have any talent in that area. I'd just be in the way.
-Well I already told my family I would sit and plan supper/____ for them; I can't back out now.
-Bummer, I don't have a car today. Sorry, I can't make it.
-I really don't think this is for me. I can do just as much by giving money.

-Granted, there will definitely be times when talent/gifts in a certain area will be necessary, but most of the time people just need help moving supplies, organizing papers, keeping everything running smoothly, leg work here and there or simply someone to encourage volunteers.
-Family is important, don't get me wrong, but I think my family could get along just fine if I wasn't there to make dinner, clean the house or play a game sometimes.
-Ask who else is going? If anyone could give a ride. Most people are more than willing to assist.
-Money is great, and pretty much any charity organization you find could use all they can get. But what if everyone uses that excuse? Everyone gives but nobody is willing to dig in and get their hands dirty, to move schedules around and give of their own time? Then all that's happened is money piles up and we watch it sit there as everyone passes by, without a thought of actually doing.

I won't put all churches in one category, because it wouldn't be fair to those who don't belong. But when you look at most churches today, where do you see the focus? Getting more members. People are friendly, kind, thoughtful and interested in the visitor, but not the actual person. It's another human that could be a possible member or fill another seat, so we have to do all we can to make them feel welcomed and loved so they'll want to join. What happens when they do? They simply become another warm body. No more checking up, no more encouraging, no more talks to get to know them...they become a faceless member of yet another church. The focus is on enlarging it's congregation and not expanding God's kingdom...a kingdom filled with passionate people who give more love and attention to other people in need than their own wants and wishes.

When you look back quite a few years, you see people getting together to worship God and learn more about Him by reading His word...it became "church". Now we get together and have our church service and many times forget about the fact that we are coming together to for God; not ourselves, not to make us feel good. We worship God, but won't let Him move among us because it might mess with our schedule or, perhaps, He might ask us to do something that might cause us to feel guilty or uncomfortable. What a horrid thought!

When we become so caught up in our own lives that we can't even get out and help those who are in need, we seriously need to take a step back and look at what's around us instead of keeping our eyes on ourselves.

"He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses." -Proverbs 28:27

Time and time again we choose to see the world, the very towns we live in, as places that don't need a whole lot of work. We put rose colored glasses on and walk around with the appearance that we aren't concerned for anything because life is just great. We don't see the people that don't have water, clothes, shoes, a place to live, we don't notice the families who go days without food; we don't see the one's who lack friends to ask for help or lean on when they need encouragement. Many times, I think it takes us having gone through something awful to actually have compassion on those who live in poor circumstances. Those who are truly in need.

I love the verse in Matthew that says,
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)

When you start investing your time, money and prayers into something, anything, you will start to value that thing. Whether it be people, your church, friends, homeless, family, charity...whatever the case is, it will become valuable to you. However, the same thing goes the opposite way. If you invest your time in yourself, your house, cars, etc then that is where your heart will be.

Invest in what you want your heart to be in. I think too often we say we would love to have opportunities to help others, but we're never willing to invest time and money in that kind of a cause. Invest in things that will have heavenly value. Care for others as you would like to be cared for yourself. Don't judge by what you see on the outside, because you never know what someone has gone through. Love as though you'll never have another chance. Give as though Christ is coming back tomorrow.

I've failed so many times doing the right thing; I let my fear of man or what other people would think of me for doing something for others. I have let other people's values and opinions rule my heart and pushed God to the corner instead of vice verses. It's time to shut out those voices. It's time to stand up when God tells me to, to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and go where He tells me to.

It's time Christians stopped focusing on themselves and the enlarging of their church and putting their time into things that will have value in the light of eternity. Things that will actually matter when we get to heaven.
What's the point in building our treasure here anyway? We can't take it with us when we go.

J.O.Y = Jesus, Others, Yourself. If you're heart is completely given Jesus, then you will do for others as you would want to have done to you, and in return it will cause you to be joyful.

Where have you built your treasure?
"But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation." -Psalm 13:5
